Arctic Convoys Film Project

Arctic Convoys Film Workshops: a free film making project taking place in Cambridge during the autumn half-term for young people aged 13-18.

The Independent Film Trust has teamed up with the Cambridge Russian-Speaking Society to teach a series of film-making workshops focused on the famous Arctic Convoys – the teams of British and Russian ships that sailed essential supplies to the USSR during the Second World War. Participants will be able to visit the legendary HMS Belfast, meet the few remaining veterans who sailed the voyage and learn how to turn these amazing stories into short films!

The workshops will teach all aspects of film-making:

– Researching

– Story-telling

– Scripting

– Filming

– Interviewing

– Basic animation

– Editing

– Sound design/music

The workshops will run at a local venue in Cambridge (TBC) and will culminate in a cinema screening where the films will appear for a public audience. The participants will be asked to participate in a Q&A at the screening to talk about making the films.

The workshop dates are as follows:

October 15: Trip to HMS Belfast (London)

w/c 16 October – visit to The Churchill Archives Centre (Cambridge)

October 21st: Meeting the veterans (Cambridge)

October 22nd – 27th: Film-making workshop (Cambridge)

December 16th: Cinema screening (Cambridge)

Apply now by sending a short letter of interest to charlotte@independentfilmtrust.org – tell us your age, why you want to take part and what you would bring to the team. No film making experience necessary.
