“The Spine of a Flute” echoes, 48 years later, the iconic play by Yuri Liubimov and Veniamin Smekhov “Listen!” In the same order as in the old play, we witness Mayakovsky’s poetic address to Pushkin, and then to Lermontov, Nekrasov and Esenin.
Vladimir Mayakovsky is one of the most important poets in the life of the actor Veniamin Smekhov. Veniamin’s meetings and friendship with Mayakovsky’s muse Lilya Brick joyfully pay a debt to the memory of the poet. Smekhov has been a script-writer and director of many theatrical works and projects devoted to Mayakovsky: “Moscow Is Burning” (1973), “Listen!” (1967), “We Are Perfomring Mayakovsky” (1984), “Lilya, Love Me” (1996), “Two Sisters” (2000), “Nekrasov – Mayakovsky” (2014).
Music by Vyacheslav Ganelin.
Actors /Creative Team: Veniamin Smekhov, Galina Aksyonova, Marina Matveyeva, Irina Galushkina, Dmitri Vysotsky, Maria Danilova, Vladislav Frolov.
