Join Dr Natalia Sidlina, the curator of ‘Red Star over Russia: A revolution in visual culture 1905-55’ for a fascinating talk.

The talk will explore the extraordinary collection of photographer and graphic designer David King (1943 – 2016) and unveil the stories behind the remarkable range of visual material he brought together. Rare photographs, posters, publications and archival footage King assembled over the last 40 years testifies to the role of the image in shaping history, politics and life for generations of people.

As 2017 marked the centenary of the October Revolution, Tate’s ongoing exhibition ‘Red Star over Russia’ explores the visual culture that emerged in its wake, one that both documented and influenced the radically new way of life that followed.

Natalia Sidlina is Adjunct Research Curator, Russian Art Supported by V-A-C Foundation, her current role at Tate includes research to maintain and extend expertise in the modern and contemporary art of Russia, to curate exhibitions and to advise Tate’s collection. Read more about Natalia and the exhibition in the interview to the ‘RUSSIAN ART + CULTURE’ magazine here

She specialises in Russian Avant-garde and has an MA from Sorbonne-Paris IV and a PhD from the Institute of Art Research. At Tate, she recently curated Erik Bulatov: ‘Forward’ (2017) and ‘Red Star Over Russia: A revolution in visual culture 1905–55’ (2017), co-edited the exhibition publication and chaired public programme events on contemporary Russian art. She curated exhibitions and worked on displays at the State Tretyakov Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate St Ives, Tate Modern and the Science Museum. Her recent publications include a monograph Naum Gabo (2012) and articles in the Science Museum Group Journal (2015) and Tate etc. (2017).
