SOCIETY FORTHCOMING EVENTS 2008-2009

(may be subject to change - please check this website closer to the dates)

Unless otherwise stated, all talks on weekdays start at 7:30pm, and are followed by a wine reception; there is usually an entrance charge for non-members, and sometimes even for members (depending on the type of event)

WHITE NIGHTS PARTY

WHEN: Saturday, 28th June, from 7pm onwards
WHERE: Fort St George, Midsummer Common, Cambridge

Do come and join us for a heartwarming evening of song, music, romance (perchance even love) and vibrant, friendly chat! Pop in at any stage for half-a-pint of coke and watch a crowd of lively Russians and the like, indulging in beautiful nostalgic tunes, or laughing and even dancing boisterously around the pub, to the amusement of the locals, and radiating heaps of warmth and happiness!
Come and get recharged!
Traditionally we also sing English, Scottish, Ukrainian and all sorts of other songs that people can remember. Please bring a guitar or any other musical instrument that you can carry (and, preferably, also play!), the words of your favourite songs, and a merry spirit.

"KAMCHATKA"

Wednesday, 17th September 2008, 7:30pm

Talk by Diana Gleadhill, with many slides Diana Gleadhill is the author of the only guide book on Kamchatka that exists at present.

Her talk is about the experiences or Two Irish Ladies in Russia's Land of Ice and Fire. It is visually very attractive, Kamchatka having some of the most stunning volcanic scenery in the world. They climb volcanoes, stay with indigenous reindeer herders and go bear-watching. Their adventures are exciting, full of beautiful scenery, funny at times and somewhat frustrating at other moments.
