Beethoven Sonata Op. 111
Stravinsky/Agosti The Firebird Suite
Rachmaninov Sonata No. 2 “original version”
This colourful programme presents the “pianist-composer” in four master works from the Russian and German traditions: the Beethoven and Rachmaninov sonatas are two of the most revolutionary works by pianist-composers while the iconic orchestral gems by Mahler and Stravinsky are brought into the piano repertoire. It will be interesting to observe the symphonic thinking of Rachmaninov in his sonata as well as the virtuoso brilliance of Agosti’s version of the Firebird, while the Beethoven and Mahler lift us up into other-worldly dimensions.
